Dr. Betensky obtained his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine, fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and advanced subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is ABIM Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Betensky provides comprehensive care for patients with a broad range of heart rhythm disorders. He has over 10 years of expertise in complex catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, atypical atrial arrhythmias, premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). His work emphasizes the use of cutting-edge imaging techniques, including real-time intracardiac ultrasound, which improves patient safety and reduces radiation exposure. Dr. Betensky typically uses radiofrequency energy and pulsed-field ablation energy sources during his ablation procedures. He also specializes in traditional and leadless pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, subcutaneous defibrillator implantation, lead management, syncope, sudden cardiac arrest and stroke prevention. He was first in the region to perform Cardiac Contractility Modulation (CCM) implantation for the treatment of congestive heart failure. He is actively involved in national research trials in an effort to improve the development of novel device and ablation equipment. Additionally, with an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Florida State University he offers subspeciality training to the Internal Medicine residents at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He was recipient of the Heart Rhythm Society Clinical Research Award in Honor of Hein Wellens and Mark Josephson and has published numerous original research manuscripts in leading peer-reviewed cardiology journals. In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, world travel, playing jazz piano, physical fitness training, international medical volunteer work and back-country camping.
